Second Helping Support Staff
Who Make it All Happen

A food writer who lost 200-plus pounds? A pastry chef-turned-bodybuilder? A marriage counselor’s weight loss affecting her marriage?

What about a scientist applying her intellect and research chops to weight maintenance? A young Texan who never had a weight problem until a doctor’s prescription? A young woman countering the freshman +15 with the freshmen -70? How the hell does that work?

We get these questions a lot. We usually just smile.

Each member of Team Second Helping looks at weight maintenance, or all the mental/emotional changes of weight loss from different angles: some clothes, some science, some food. But the common thread linking Team Second Helping is ambivalence toward what’s “impossible” about weight loss and weight maintenance, and a dedication to discussing post-weight life in all its complexity, joy, uncertainty and sense of discovery.
