Second Helping Toolbox
Post-Weight Discussions around the Web
Not to toot our own horn (well, okay, maybe we will a little), few media outlets discuss all the nuances of what happens to your life as you near and hit goal and all the “Now what?” questions appear. You’ll find a stray article here and there, which is largely why we created Second Helping in the first place.
But there are a number of interesting message boards and related threads out there asking important questions, revolving around maintenance, what’s involved and especially dividing life between “fat life” and “now I’m not fat anymore” life.
Here are a few message board threads we created one of last year’s “Now what?” columns that are worth examining and took a life of their own — the questions and responses are pretty revealing.

“You Lost Too Much Weight and other Charming Comments”
Two other message boards are note worthy (and you’ll find we hang out there a good amount) and require registration:
Sparkpeople.com has a huge variety of message boards on all aspects of weight loss, including boards created by the site’s public — one of Russ’ favorites is the At Goal and Maintaining Team. Visit a href=”http://www.sparkpeople.com”>Sparkpeople.com to sign up.
About.com also has a weight loss site with a message board focused on maintenance at caloriecount.about.com which also discusses the differences between losing weight and actually keeping it off. No, they’re not the same thing. Those are two of our favorite hangouts, and you’ll see me post various articles and questions on occasion. Do you have a favorite place to discuss life, post-weight and making sense of it all? Let us know and we’ll keep adding to the list!
